Handbook Of English Language Teaching

The first edition of the Handbook of English Language Teaching has been carefully designed for undergraduate courses in English Language Teaching Departments. It is an essential resource for primary course material and supplementary reading for pre-service ELT programs. Given the dynamic nature of the English Language Teaching field with the constant evolution of new perspectives, ideas, and teaching approaches, we acknowledge the impossibility of encompassing all aspects of the subject area within a single volume. Therefore, we have decided to focus on the fundamentals of foreign language teaching in this edition.

The book addresses fundamental topics such as linguistics and language acquisition, provides an overview of methods and approaches to foreign language teaching, and discusses specialized teaching methods in the initial four chapters. The following four chapters examine more specific yet core issues in English Language Teaching, including teaching language skills, young learners, grammar teaching, and pronunciation. Subsequent chapters highlight theoretical and practical aspects of effective communication and assessment in language teaching. In the final three chapters, the authors introduce fresh perspectives to the core topics, including classroom management, EFL vocabulary, and material development, by integrating them with online learning, digital literacy, and technology.
